Artificial Synapses Created by Engineers That Mimic the Human Brain
Memristor is basically a device that acts as an electrical component that we used to regulate flow of charge and also its resistance relies on how much amount of electrical charge has passed through it previously.
One human brain has almost have one quadrillion of the synaptic connections. Synaptic connection plays important role in memory cell formation.
Researches have suggested that scientists should focus on developing a computer like brain instead of focusing on artificial intelligence. Developing a computer like human brain will be more beneficial. Engineers from University of Massachusetts have researched and determine devices that can emulate the brain’s synapses behavior.
Memristors components are used in their device which has particular resistance factor depending upon how much amount of charged has been passed through these components in past. These components are better than traditional integrated circuits depending upon their ability to speedy store and process the store information along with several additional characteristics.
Devices and components like this have already been used in the past as well. But this study is improved and unique because two different kinds of components are combined here to emulate the brain behavior. These memristors are not based on biological ones but on physical resources.
People are used traditional circuits along with transistors and capacitors to emulate different synaptic dynamics, these components can work properly but these devices very slightly resemble to the real biological systems.
These are not efficient if done this way and it also occupies large area to place equipment, large energy resources are required with less fidelity.
The Best Computer:
If scientists are successful to replicate the brain’s synaptic functions then they get very close to the experiment of the brain emulating devices like computers. One brain has almost one quadrillion of synaptic connection along with 100 billion of neurons.
As scientist are able to create the computers that are capable of functioning as fast as human brains does. The human brain unit is capable of processing 10 quadrillion operations in one sec while the fastest computer in this world also called Tinashe is capable of doing 55 quadrillion operations in one sec, the only problem is efficiency is required they should have enough energy resource that can light a bulb.
Based on data, efficiency and power, some scientists are saying that key to achieve singularity is actually brain emulation.
